Snowboarding
Last week I took Hannah up snowboarding. One of the many blessings here in central Washington. We live about 20 miles from “Mission Ridge” a ski resort just outside of Wenatchee. When I was a teenager, snowboarding was very new. I remember seeing someone ripping a trail down the mountain and losing control… it was one of the greatest and worst wipeouts I’ve ever seen. The thing that I remember about it most was, “he was committed.” With skies, if you wipeout, chances are fair that your skis will pop off and not beat you to death in the tumble and turn of the fall. most cases not all. Snowboards are another story, buckle up, because these things are strapped around your leg and foot and have no intention of going anywhere without you.
So, I gave up skiing to start snowboarding with my daughter… what was I thinking? I’m a much better skier than snowboarder. However, I want to be a “cool” pop and hey, I’m not 40 yet, so I can still throw my body around like a rag doll and not worry about life long physical injuries… I hope.
With all that said, I’m posting this video I took with my cell phone of Hannah snowboarding. She loves it and I’m humbled by it. I suppose it’s evidence of why Washington state has a law which says you cannot use your cell phone while you are driving… perhaps they’ll add snowboarding too. “Hang up and board.”
peace.
